Clothing and What to buy

When it comes to clothing needs, the key to staying comfortable in the mountains is layering. Layering allows for you to stay comfortable in a variety of conditions using lightweight and comfortable fabrics. The trick to layering is to combine the right clothing in the proper order, trapping the air warmed by your body heat, while letting moisture vapor from your body's perspiration be conducted away from your skin. The choice of garments must be versatile enough to adapt to your activity level and variations in weather conditions—maintaining the delicate balance of staying cool when active and warm when at rest.

The first layer should be worn against the skin and is intended to wick the moisture away from the skin. Synthetic underwear works well for this purpose. It is designed to pull the moisture away from your skin and also dries quickly getting any moisture away from your skin and preventing you from getting cold. The second layer is designed to insulate. You want a fabric such as fleece that will hold the warm air close to your skin, but will also dry quickly by pulling any moisture away from your skin. The final piece of your layering system should be a shell. The purpose of the shell is to keep the elements off of you including wind, water, and snow while allowing any inside moisture to escape. With the correct layering system you can enjoy the outdoors in any type of weather.
